Saying Goodbye to Allen Walker - Red and Mana ② (A.Wに別れを告げる・赤腕とマナ②, A.W. (Aren Wōkā) ni wakare o tsugeru ・ Akaude to Mana ②) is Chapter 238 of D.Gray-man written and illustrated by Katsura Hoshino.

Red races after Mana.

Mana confides in Red about his situation, and his search for his brother.

Still in pursuit of Nea, Mana almost gets run over by a horse and carriage, but Red manages to save him just in time.[1] Mana then explains to an enraged Red that he was chasing after who he thought was his missing twin brother.[2]

As Red helps Mana clean the mud off his suit, the young boy points out that the person Mana ran after looked much younger than him.[3] Mana seems amused by this, and this is when Red realises for the first time that he has golden eyes.[3] However, Red is soon pulled out of his thoughts when Mana asks him to guess how old he is. To Mana's shock, a confused Red believes him to look in his sixties.[4] But Red's confusion only rises further when Mana claims to be seventeen.[4]

Red believes it to be nothing more than a lame joke, however, Mana explains he is telling the truth; he woke up one morning to find himself an old man, and is even certain that his hair used to be longer, he did not have any facial hair, and he used to be shorter.[5] Despite Red's scepticism, Mana continues, explaining that while he was initially shocked, and soon afterwards realised his twin brother had gone missing, along with "Tim".[6]

Sidling closer to Red, Mana tells him that this must stay between the two of them.[6] Not only that, but he reveals the two of them are being hunted by The Earl of Millennium.[7] Despite his initial shock, Red simply thinks to himself that Mana is mixing up fairy tales and reality.[7]

Mana believes that since he looks so much older now, he must be the one to search for his brother, and this is the reason he became a travelling performer. Though he is hurt by Red's suggestion that his brother could simply have ditched him.[8] Red explains that it could have been similar to what happened to him; he woke up one day to realise he had already been sold to the circus, with the Ringmaster claiming that he had been sold by his parents.[9] Red's expression becomes increasingly sad as he explains he has no family and nowhere to go—he has only ever known the circus.

Seeing this, Mana gets Red to look at the beautiful sunset, and tells him that no matter what happens, he will always love the beautiful world.[10] He tells Red that as long as he has something he loves, a path will open before him. Smiling, they look out to the sunset, while Red thinks about how this is the first time he has ever seen a sunset as something beautiful.[11]
