Episode 98

The Power of Generals (元帥の力, Gensui no Chikara) is the 98th episode of the D.Gray-Man anime.

Lvellie criticizes Komui for arriving late, asking about Lenalee's status. Komui remembers Lenalee's words about mimicking the experiment she witnessed in order to synchronize. Kanda appears asking about the situation, but Komui tells him he's useless without Mugen, and they can't afford to lose him. Komui asks Marie and Miranda to help with Lab 5.

Allen and Bookman keep fighting the Akuma; meanwhile the two remaining Skulls continue to convert scientists. Allen tries to save one researcher but the Akuma block his path and he doesn't make it in time. Allen is tackled by a Level 3 and about to be attacked but Bookman saves him. However, Bookman is now affected by a Level 3's ability that seems to be turning his body into stone.

Bookman can't move any more. Just then, Giant Akuma appear wreaking havoc. Reever, Marvin and the other safe scientists continue to work on talismans; they notice the egg dropping into Gate 27. Bak points out that as long as the Order has the egg, the Earl can't make any new Akuma.

Allen is pinned down by a Level 3, so he uses Clown Belt to pierce all the nearby Akuma. Allen is kicked by another Akuma onto a balcony; an injured scientist appears asking for help. An Akuma shows up to kill both of them, so Allen moves to protect the scientist. However, it was all a trap, as the man was Lulu Bell transformed. She slaps him with her whip-arm and chastizes him for being soft enough to fall for her tricks.

The Akuma move to kill Allen, but Lulu Bell halts that, saying she'll take him back to the Earl alongside the Egg. The egg completely submerges in Gate 27. Meanwhile, the new Skulls walk one by one into Gate 26, leading to their new home. Lulu Bell drops into the gate and tells the Akuma to kill any humans still left.

An Akuma moves to finish Bookman off, but is blocked by a barrier erected from Reever's talisman. Bak's talisman is centered on Allen, preventing them from taking him into Gate 27. The Level 3s test the barriers and try to penetrate them. Bak, Johnny and Reever call out Allen's name, trying to wake him up.

Lenalee has a premonition about Allen, but he wakes up in time to avoid being captured. Bak's talisman dies and the barrier disappears, but Marie and Miranda appear out of Gate 4 and she activates Time Record, using Reverse. The egg appears back in Lab 5, emerging from the Gate. The 4 Generals have arrived as well, with Socalo making a grand entrance. To counter him, a Giant Akuma appears, shocking those who haven't seen one before. Socalo is thrilled to see a worthy opponent. The other Generals don't mind, so Winters activates his Innocence, Madness, piercing through the Giant Akuma and taking it out in one blow.

An Akuma manages to penetrate Reever's barrier, but Allen takes him out before he can break through. Most of the remaining Level 3s merge into seven Giant Akumas. General Tiedoll activates Maker of Eden, using his Garden of Embrace, which Bak recognizes as the Order's strongest defensive technique.

Johnny sees the Skulls moving into the gate, worried about Tup. He limps towards them. Klaud tells Froi she'll leave the injured scientists under his protection while she, Cross and Socalo take out the Akuma. Froi insinuates Cross's skills may have gotten rusty. Cross and Klaud activate Judgment and Lau Jimin. Klaud has her monkey attack, while Cross shoots the Giants with bullets. Cross and Klaud trade bantering barbs as they fight.

The Giant Akumas are all defeated, and a mist begins to fill the room. Marie manages to contact the command center, telling them the Akuma threat appears to have been eliminated.
