The Introduction Arc is the first story arc from the D.Gray-man (Manga) series by Katsura Hoshino. It focuses on Allen's journey to the Black Order to become an Exorcist. During this arc, Allen meets a variety of people and gets into trouble when he helps these people, who are in great danger from the Akuma, machinery used by The Earl of Millennium. Similarly, at his arrival at the Black Order he is also introduced to new people, with whom he eventually creates a strong bond. The arc chapters span correctly from chapter 1 until 7, whereas in the anime, the first and second episode, followed by the meeting with the Earl of Millennium is originally according to the manga chapters from episode 6 until episode 8.
Summary[]
The Cursed Church[]
Cress of the Black Order.
Allen protects Moor.
Moor and her partner Charles are investigating an old church which is said to have been cursed by citizens. After entering the church, they are suddenly attacked by bats. Someone took Moor away which leaves Charles alone. The person who had taken Moor ends up to be a young boy. Moor then handcuffs him, to which the boy says that he didn't mean to do that and that he was only trying to grab that cat. Moor then handcuffed him on the window, as the boy explains why he's in the church. Moor doesn't seem to believe him and tells him that she will round up his companions. A loud scream came from the direction to which Moor is heading and sees Charles tied to a pole, later vanishing. Moor is shocked and now thinks that the rumors are indeed true. She can't breath due to the poisonous gas from Charles' corpse. The boy then saves Moor and explains to her what has happened to her partner and Moor falls unconscious.
At the Police Station[]

Moor has been awakened and brought to the interrogation room where they have the suspect. The boy turned out to be Allen Walker. They start interrogating Allen. The chief then grabs his red hand thinking that it is bloody, and sees that there is a cross in the middle of his hand. He then calls Allen a psychopath because he thinks that he has embedded the cross inside his hand.

Moor then defends Allen and one of the officers says that Charles was killed by a large bullet and Allen had only a cat. The chief then asks Moor why she was unconscious. Afterwards, Allen suggests to help them with the investigation because he has seen the culprit. He then says that the culprit is nicknamed "Akuma", telling them that the cross on his hand is an anti-Akuma weapon. The chief then tells Moore that she must watch Allen like a hawk and heads off to the cursed church.
Arrival of The Earl of Millennium[]
The Earl Disappeared.
The Earl of Millennium walks by the event of Charles' death. He heads off to his "Akuma". After that his Akuma was blowing off gas, he stands behind him and orders him to kill more and evolve. He then hears someone and disappears.
Appearance of the Akuma[]

Moor is coming to her brother and tells him that he must eat. He then tells her that he is full, and Moor apologizes to him. He says that he will eat something soon. They both then hear Allen's voice; Moor caught him trying to go back to the church. Later Allen looks outside and sees the church and hopes that the inspector is alright. Moor asks Allen if he really thinks that the culprit is an Akuma because she doesn't believe in demons. Allen then says that these demons are a little bit different and explains it to her. Moor's brother rolls on into the room. He then starts to shake which causes Moor to worry. Allen sees that Moor's brother Marc is in fact an Akuma which then suddenly transform into the ball shape and starts to attack them. Allen is hit by the blast and sent straight to the church.
Battle against the Akuma[]

After being attacked by the Akuma, Moor sees that Allen has caught the bullet. Moor tries to touch it, but Allen says that there is a gaseous agent inside it. The cat, which was hit by a bullet, is covered with pentagrams and shatters. Moor then wonders what has happened to Marc. Allen then explains. The Akuma appears at the church, where the inspector and the officers come ask what Moore is doing there.

After seeing the Akuma, the Inspector orders them to shoot, but Allen says that guns won't hurt him and tells them to run. The Akuma shoots them and sees that everyone has died. Moor cries, scolding the Akuma as a monster. Allen explains to her much more about the Akuma. After that Allen tells her what Akumas are doing, and a flashback about Moor, Marc and Claire's past is shown. Later Allen defeats the Akuma and saves Claire's soul. After the battle with the Akuma, they look at the moon and Moor asks Allen if Marc and Claire are in heaven. Allen then says that they are.
The First Meeting with the Earl of Millennium[]

The young boy and the Akuma[]

Allen dreams again about what happened in India with his master Cross Marian three months ago. He wakes up and hears a scream "It's an Akuma!!" and runs off towards it. Once arrived Allen asks directly about the Akuma, but a crowd is there and one says that there are no Akumas.

A boy named Jan points to a homeless man and claims that he is an Akuma. The man defends himself saying that he played with Jan and he is getting carried away. When they leave, the Akuma sees a chance to kill Jan. Allen activates his arm telling the Akuma that he cannot defy his eye, purifying him. Jan is happy to see an Exorcist and is excited to see his anti-Akuma weapon.
The meeting of Allen and Jan[]

After Allen rescues Jan from the Akuma, the two talk with each other while walking. Jan tells Allen that he want to be a scientist like his father and that he will make a weapon that can destroy the Akuma.
Onion Bomb.
He then tells Allen that he is physically weak, and that Exorcists are normally macho. Jan asks Allen how many Akumas he has defeated, how he obtained his anti-Akuma weapon, and how it was when he destroyed his first Akuma. Allen tells Jan that he must not ask too many questions. Allen says Jan must not get the Maker's attention because it is dangerous. Jan gives Allen an onion bomb which explodes in his eyes. Jan then goes to his friend telling Allen that the Akuma won't attack them all.
Jan's long-time partner and the Secret[]
The Earl starts to appear in Leo's Eye.
Jan appears at his friend Leo's house, saying it has been a while and that he hasn't seen him since his mother's funeral. Jan notices that Leo has changed a little bit and thinks it may be because of his mother's death, wondering if there is anything to cheer him up. Jan tells Leo that he saw an Akuma while he was patrolling and knew that the skeleton was a machine. He tells Leo that he has also seen its creator, The Earl of Millennium. Jan then draws a picture of the Earl and tells Leo that they will go around town and ask about him. Leo grabs Jan's hand asking him if he wants to go somewhere with him. Allen appears at Jan's house and sees one of his maids. Jan pushes the maid towards Allen and asks why he came, leaving Allen with his maid still upon him. When Allen sees Leo, he tells Jan to wait, but he is gone already.
The Meeting with The Earl of Millennium[]

Allen enters Jan's home and sees his sketch of the Earl of Millennium on a chair. Jan and Leo arrive at the cemetery and Jan thinks they came here to pay respects to Leo's mother. Jan collides with the Earl of Millennium, to his surprise. Jan throws an onion bomb and tells Leo to get away from him. The Earl says that Leo has been dead for a long time, ever since his mother's funeral. The Earl says that Jan disturbed him and that Leo is the Akuma that will punish him. Jan cannot believe it, but Allen appears and confirms that Leo is the Earl's Akuma. Allen tells Jan to believe him, because what Jan is seeing is now just Leo's physical appearance, but underneath that is a weapon of the Earl, the Akuma. The Earl of Millennium asks Allen who he is. Allen responds that he is his enemy. The Earl then knows that Allen is an Exorcist. Allen activates his cross, starting his attack on the Earl of Millennium and his purification of Leo.
Battle against the Akuma and The Earl of Millennium[]

While Allen tries to purify Leo's soul, he gets stopped by Jan telling Allen that Leo is his friend, and that they made a promise to protect the village from Akuma, asking Allen for proof. Leo then transforms into an Akuma and shoots poison bullets at Jan, but Allen protects him. The Earl of Millennium is angry that Jan is talking about justice and explains about his creation.

Allen explains to Jan that Leo used the Earl's power to get back his dead mother but she became a Akuma. Allen then says that he can see Leo's mother suffering as an Akuma. The Earl of Millennium becomes angry at Allen because he says that he can see the soul within an Akuma. Allen tells the Earl that his parasite-type anti-Akuma weapon can nullify the poison within him. The infection disappears and the Earl is in shock. Allen says his left eye is cursed, because he turned an important person into an Akuma, allowing Allen to now see the souls within Akuma. The Earl of Millennium remembers him, saying he met him before. The Earl says that Allen turned his father into an Akuma.
Past, The meeting of Allen and the Earl of Millennium[]
Mana curses Allen.
Allen says he and Mana weren't related by blood, but he was the only one who adopted him after his parents abandoned him for being born with a strange left arm. After Mana's death, Allen made a deal with the Earl of Millennium to bring him back as an Akuma. Mana attacks Allen, cursing him by cutting his left eye. The Innocence in Allen's left arm awakens and attacks Mana. He tells Mana to run while his left arm approaches, but Mana tells Allen that he loves him and to destroy him. After that, Allen is found by Cross Marian who trains him as an Exorcist. Allen says his curse is to see the feelings of a soul within the Akuma. Allen then activates his Innocence again and tells the Earl that Akumas are sad beings which shouldn't exist in this world. An angry Earl says that he should have killed him the day that they met.
The Earl and Leo against Allen Walker[]

The Earl tells Allen if he can see the soul within an Akuma, and that he can save them, then he should try and do it, attacking Allen. Allen attacks the bullets that are shot from the Akuma, telling him that he managed to attack him because he was protecting Jan. He says that the anti-Akuma weapon he possesses has enormous strength and speed, so an Akuma bullet or hard body has no use against it. Allen tells the Earl that his weapon of God was made to destroy the Earl's weapons. The Earl summons more Akuma to destroy Allen. Jan thinks about the time that Leo was still alive, claiming that Leo is an idiot because he should have known that the Earl is a bad person, yet he still listened to him. Jan then tells Allen to destroy Leo, and Allen uses his technique "Cross Grave" to destroy all the Akuma.

The Earl then escapes saying that he can't handle it at that level and tells Allen that they will see each other again soon. Allen collapses and asks Jan to call a doctor for him. Jan cries, saying that he will call a doctor soon, and asks him to hold on. Three days later, Allen asks what Jan is making. Jan tells Allen that he is creating a cross for Leo's grave because Leo is considered a runaway and no one knows he's dead. Jan then tells Allen that he's going to the Black Order, and Allen says he's going because Timcanpy is going crazy. Jan will go to his father's place and study more, and the pair fist bump telling each other to do their best.
Arrival at the Black Order[]
Allen climbs up a cliff to get to the Black Order's European branch. He is spotted by the members wondering who he is. Later they use The Gatekeeper to investigate Allen with an X-ray, in order to check if he's an Akuma or a human. The Gatekeeper sees his pentacle and says that he's an Akuma. Allen is attacked by Yu Kanda with his Mugen. Allen's arm activates in reaction.
Allen VS. Kanda, The Misunderstanding & The Acceptance[]
Kanda approaches Allen.
Kanda damages Allen's anti-Akuma weapon, shocking Allen. Kanda asks him about his arm, and Allen replies that it is his anti-Akuma weapon and that he is an Exorcist. Kanda gets angry at the Gatekeeper, who claims that he is an Akuma after all after seeing his pentacle. Allen gets frustrated at the Gatekeeper, saying he's not an Akuma but a human. Kanda says he won't believe it until he sees Allen's guts, and activates his sword saying he will cut him in two. Allen claims he is not his enemy and says there should be a letter of recommendation from Cross Marian.
Everybody looks at Komui.
That shocks Kanda, and he stops the attack. Allen says that the letter must be there, making everyone inside the Order stare at Komui. Komui tells one of his men to search for the letter on his desk, and after more staring Komui says that he will help find it as well. After Komui and his assistant find the letter, Komui tells Reever to have Kanda stop his attack on Allen. After that Reever relays the message to Kanda. After the problem has been solved, Lenalee shows Allen around the Black Order headquarters. Komui introduces himself to Allen and fixes his arm. After that, he brings Allen to Hevlaska, who checks Allen's synchronization rate and explains about Innocence. Later Allen is seen in his new room, telling Mana that he will not stop walking.
